The Principal SHE Program Manager is a subject-matter expert who provides technical support and consultation for Industrial Hygiene programs related to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of workplace hazards related to chemical / physical / biological / radiological exposures.The successful candidate will possess a high degree of technical expertise, excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and SHE team members, and a willingnessto respond quickly and practically to the fast-moving SHE needs of our manufacturing site. This is a "hands-on" position that will require an on-the-floor presence and experience conducting workplace risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate risks to protect people and comply with regulatory requirements. Our future vision is a site with Zero Chances for Safety Incidents .Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical:Serves as subject-matter expert and provides technical direction for the development and implementation of Industrial Hygiene and related programs including, but not limited to:Chemical SafetyWorkplace Health Risk Assessments & Exposure MonitoringRespiratory Protection / Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) / Indoor Air QualityHazard Communication (HazCom) / Safety Data Sheets (SDS)Hearing ConservationLead Paint & Asbestos ManagementBiosafetyRadiation Safety (limited sources) & Laser SafetyNew Chemical ReviewRoche Corporate Directives on Occupational Hygiene (K1, K4, K5, K12, K17, K22)Conduct air monitoring studies and health risk assessments to characterize employee exposures, develop summary reports, recommend solutions to reduce risks, and communicate the findings to all levels of management.Provides technical support and guidance on chemical safety. Recommends control strategies to eliminate or substantially reduce exposures and minimize risk to chemical, physical, biological, and radiological hazards to people.Ensure that applicable training and procedures for assigned programs are developed and implemented for site client groups. Conduct training and train-the-trainer courses for worker protection programs to non-SHE professionals.Develops strategic plans for assigned SHE programs across all business units to ensure they can be effectively implemented by stakeholders, are compliant with applicable regulatory requirements, and conform with company standards.Identifies and manages risk while minimizing the impact on our key stakeholders. Uses industry best practices while making prudent decisions to identify and address current risks and future compliance challenges as well as continuous improvement opportunities. Ensures the site complies with applicable regulatory requirements and is "audit ready" at all times. Tracks and trends compliance findings and takes actions to ensure compliance and prevent reoccurrence.Serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits and inspections relative to assigned programs, including reporting, notification, facilitating regulatory inspections, and ensuring closure of corrective actions.Establishes and manages consultant, project, and program budgets. Proficient in project management. Takes responsibility to identify initiatives, establish project plans and resource requirements, obtain management approval, and drive projects to completion.Improves the SHE culture by working cross-functionally with SHE colleagues and senior leaders to build a culture that embraces proactive SHE program implementation and integrates SHE processes into the business processes.Identifies and leads business process improvement initiatives to drive improvement within the EHS function and the client's function.Coaches and/or mentors other EHS staff in their programs and/or area(s) of expertise. If managing people directly, this will include supporting them with performance and development coaching.Serves as needed as a Safety Officer during disaster/emergency response and recovery efforts. May also be required to serve as an EHS Advisor (technical expert) for the emergency response team during company-related emergencies.Exercises independent and sound judgement in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Champions self-initiated projects and justifies goals to management.Proficient in project management, meeting target deadlines, and managing schedule and budget.Requirements:Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of industrial hygiene related regulations, codes, and consensus standards including, but not limited to, federal (OSHA), state (Cal/OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), NIOSH, and ACGIH.Prior "hands on" experience in performing risk assessment, exposure monitoring, and developing control solutions and monitoring strategies to eliminate or reduce exposures using engineering controls, administrative controls, or personal protective equipment.Thorough knowledge of environment, health and safety regulations, codes and standards, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, FDA and other regulatory requirements applicable to GMP and non-GMP environments.Highly effective team player and collaborator. Ensures connections between adjacent client groups.Effective at reframing challenges into opportunities. Track record of being resilient and adaptable in navigating organizational resistance and influencing others to adopt new behaviors and approaches. Champion for EHS.Skilled at balancing risk with speed and value, focuses attention where it's needed to resolve issues or drive improvement, right-size programs and processes to maintain compliance and improve efficiency and value to the business.Strategic and forward-thinker, who can identify future needs of the organization, and consider the best solution/outcome for EHS, the client and Genentech. Listens deeply to key stakeholders, and considers their needs along with regulatory requirements and best practices to make informed decisions. Ability to realize EHS strategies through partnering with other EHS staff, Site Services partners, and the business. Ability to deliver high value through strategic consultingStrong communication skills. Develops clear and concise messages from complex data. Effective presenting to senior leadership and their teams, and can quickly gain trust. Can translate data into actionable insights and communicates in a way that resonates-inspiring people to care.Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills and is able to facilitate the work of cross-functional and interdepartmental teams. Effectively leads and motivates cross-functional teams in a fast-paced and diverse environment using positive interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach. This may include leading agile teams focused on creating value for the business.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to clearly and concisely represent issues to senior leadership, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and influence cross-functional and interdepartmental teams.Ability to significantly influence the overall objectives and long-range goals of the organization.Ability to work with limited direction & guidance, and make independent decisions where necessary.Ability to utilize approaches that require innovation and change.Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google suite of tools.Who You Are:Education:You hold a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with a major in physical science, life science, engineering, occupational safety, or other relevant scientific field.Certification:Current registration as a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is required.Experience (minimum):Minimum of 12 or more years of relevant work experience in Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE), preferably in manufacturing and/or the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry.Prior experience and a solid working knowledge of industrial hygiene monitoring methods and procedures related to chemicals encountered in the biotechnology industry.Must be a self starter with strong analytical and problem solving skills, be able to multi-task and develop solutions to complex problems.Please refer to our FAQs and videos on careers.roche.ch/faq for questions.
