skills; ability to function effectively under stress Description:
Radiation Therapists use ionizing radiation-producing equipment to
administer therapeutic doses of radiation as prescribed by
physicians for the treatment of disease, generally cancer. A
Radiation Therapist exposes specific areas of the patient's body to
prescribed doses of radiation. They maintain detailed records of
all therapy sessions, noting information such as the area treated,
the radiation dosage, equipment control settings, the patient's
reactions, and the total amount of radiation received to date. This
role requires graduation from an accredited radiation therapy
program, registry or registry eligibility in radiation therapy
technology, and licensure by the State Department of Health
Services. Radiation Therapists must be familiar with the standard
concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of Radiation
Therapy. They rely on experience and judgment to plan and
accomplish treatment goals. The role involves performing a variety
of tasks, working under general supervision, and utilizing a
certain degree of creativity and latitude. Radiation Therapists
report to the Physician and Supervisor. They operate all
radiation-generating equipment as directed to deliver the
prescribed radiation dose in an accurate, safe, and efficient
manner. Documentation of treatment and setup parameters in the
patient's medical record is required. They schedule treatment and
simulation appointments and maintain the treatment schedule and
records of statistical data. They observe prescribed radiation
safety measures as outlined in relevant regulations and
organizational policies. They participate in Quality Assurance (QA)
and Quality Control (QC) duties as assigned. Radiation Therapists
fabricate immobilization and treatment devices as needed. They
report equipment malfunctions and maintain a logbook of necessary
repairs. They report patient status to nursing and/or medical staff
while the patient is undergoing radiation therapy. The role
requires maintaining a professional and supportive attitude toward
all staff members, patients, and their families. Additional duties
